Last year, Emma (who is part of the Trust’s committee), suggested that we enter the London Marathon 2019 charity ballot. The ballot gives one place each to around 500 charities from across the UK. Thousands apply. We were absolutely gobsmacked when the team at the London Marathon got in touch to say we had been successful.
We asked our supporters, via our Facebook page, if anyone would be interested in running for Talan in London and we had lots of interest. To be fair to everyone who was interested we held out own ballot and Tressa Lismore was the lucky runner whose name was pulled from the hat.
With seven months to train Tress did us proud. Training for a marathon is a huge undertaking. With a husband, full time job and two children, Tress was up at 4.30 to run at 5am before starting work at 7 towards the end when long runs were necessary.
We were over the moon when Rollo McGrath, who got a place through the Bude Rats running club, offered to run for Talan too.
To make it our trio, Ella Henwood, who was running for Teenage Cancer Trust, asked if she could run it for Talan’s Trust as well!
Talan’s Trust supporters all got behind the three of them and sent messages of support all day and we were able to track them with an interactive app.
All three finished in great times despite sickness and injuries!
Tressa Lismore 4.07.33
Ella Henwood 4.58.43
Rollo McGrath 5.17.24
We are so proud of them and extremely grateful for their time and massive effort. The final amount raised will be announced shortly.
We’d also like to thank Impact Clothing & Cotton Roots who provided a lovely hooded sweatshirt for the runners, to keep them warm after the race. You can see Tress wearing hers in the photo above. They provided these for free, which was so very kind and we’re really grateful.
